TEDxSydney is being organised by General Thinking in collaboration with a network of thinkers and doers.
TEDxSydney 2010 Organising Committee
Remo Giuffré | Licensee, Editorial Director & Host
Remo is the founder of the iconic REMO General Store; and cofounder of General Thinking. Prior to founding REMO in 1988, Remo worked as a lawyer in Sydney with Baker & McKenzie and then as a consultant to a number of communications businesses located in both Australia and the US. He was the Director of Branding & Strategy at frogdesign in Silicon Valley from 1997, and later the resident Brand Strategist at pioneering online developer Organic in New York. Remo earned combined Commerce and Law degrees from the University of New South Wales, and an MBA from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business in New York; majoring in marketing, communications management and organisational behaviour. Although not formally trained as a designer, Remo has been dreaming, designing & doodling for much of his life. He attended his first TED Conference in 1993.

Janne Ryan | Curator & Executive Producer
Janne is an ideas curator. In 2010 she was Executive Producer of HOPE 2010, the keynote talks event co-produced by the Sydney Festival and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. She produces ABC By Design and was a founding Executive Producer for ABC Radio National’s Late Night Live, and Arts Today. For the Australian Financial Review Magazine, Janne created the Front of Mind interview, where key thinkers worldwide talked about their ideas and thinking. Her AFR 20 Questions interview pioneered talking to Australian leaders about their key life influences. These experiences have all come together with TEDxSydney.

David Glover | Event Director
David was trained in drama, but has worked mainly in the advertising/marketing/corporate communications field, for one-person startups to multinationals. Along the way he co-created Whodunit Weekends, helped establish the REMO General Store in Oxford Street, owned a five-star country guesthouse, restaurant and coffee farm. He has also taught at Macquarie University. David has known and loved the TED idea since Remo first told me about many years ago. he became a TED Associate as soon as they announced them and put his hand up when he heard that Remo was running TEDxSydney.

Amy Denmeade | Curator & Manager
Amy has worked in various strategy and business development roles for media and technology companies, large and small, in Australia and the US. She has also spent time in the community sector, including a few years as General Manager of the Inspire Foundation. Amy is a perpetual student and is currently undertaking a masters degree in US Studies. The list of her favourite TED Talks is long (and eclectic) but includes talks by Majora Carter, Daniel Kahneman and Eric Sanderson.

Julian Morrow | Speaker & Producer
Julian is a co-founder of The Chaser, a satirical media empire which rivals Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation in all fields except power, influence, popularity and profitability. He now works as part of the Chaser creative team and, for his sins, is its Managing Director, as well as working independently in the media. Staying true to the Chaser corporate motto, “Striving for mediocrity in a world of excellence”, Julian has worked with the Chaser team on all its media projects, including the internationally popular Olympics parody site silly2000.com, a decade’s worth of Chaser Annuals, and various radio and stage shows. Due mainly to others’ unavailability, Julian was invited to give the 2009 Andrew Olle Media Lecture. The lecture was described as “excellent” by his mother. Julian hopes one day to leave the media to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer again.

Pip Cummings | Curator & Editor
Pip is a communicator. Having worked for several years as a philosophy tutor, research assistant and PhD candidate, she was seduced to the then-brave new world of online journalism by the Sydney Morning Herald’s Walkley Award-winning Sydney Games site. Across a decade with Fairfax Media she also edited the Herald’s news site, and enjoyed roles as a feature writer and section editor on the newspaper; most recently as the deputy editor of Spectrum. She currently works as Deputy Editor of Mindfood magazine. Pip genuinely feels her spirit diminished without the regular and generous exchange of ideas. And dancing. Working on TEDxSydney exercised all her skills and has been a joyful romp for the mind.

Anton Monsted | Musical Director
Anton has worked in various roles across film, television, live events, and music production most notably (and often) with filmmaker Baz Luhrmann. While waiting to commence a masters degree, a summer job as a handyman turned into a role as researcher and subsequently director’s assistant on the film “William Shakespeare’s Romeo+Juliet”. Following the success of the film and its soundtrack albums with which he was also involved, Anton went on to run Bazmark Music, music supervising and co-producing music for the films “Moulin Rouge” and “Australia”. He was executive producer of “No 5: The Film”, a campaign for Chanel in 2004, and the “Come Walkabout” campaign for Tourism Australia in 2008. He is currently general manager of Luhrmann’s production company Bazmark, where he is actively involved in the creative development of film and other projects. Anton lives in Sydney with his wife Nikki DiFalco, and their two sons.

Rob Manson | Technology Director
Rob has been modeling Information Architectures and IA driven business models since 1989. As the technology landscape evolved he moved from digital pre-press, to interactive media, to network applications and finally to pervasive computing. Now he has joined Mobile Online Business (MOB) and is focused upon exploring life after Convergence — a place where objects and their interfaces Diverge allowing you to control them anywhere, anytime. His primary goal is to provide MOB’s clients with hands on, real world experience with this intangible new world.

About General Thinking
General Thinking is a Global Thinkers Network that TEDxSydney 2010 licensee Remo Giuffré co-founded in 2001. Although best known for his work as a merchant and founder of the iconic REMO General Store, Remo’s connection to TED dates back to 1993, when the TED founder Richard Saul Wurman invited Remo to TED 4 in Kobe on the condition that he provide the speakers with REMO T Shirts and all conference attendees with a copy of his award winning 1991 REMO mail order catalogue. Remo has been attending TED conferences, and REMO has been supplying TEDsters with official conference T Shirts and other quality merchandise ever since. Check out the official REMO for TED 2010 T Shirt HERE.
