TEDxSydney 2010 happened at CarriageWorks on Saturday 22 May and featured a
selection of Australia's leading visionaries and storytellers showcasing
their Ideas Worth Spreading LIVE to a group of thinkers ... as well as
ONLINE to the world at large. Here are some of the videos. We are uploading
more talks as they become ready. Please keep checking back for more!
Here’s a treat. You may have noticed an illustrator set up with a white board in the foyer at CarriageWorks. His name was Gavin Blake aka Fever Picture and we retained him for the TEDxSydney 2010 Forum as someone to visually document each speaker presentation. Here’s what he came up with … each done in real time during the talk. Each graphic references the entire presentation. Check out the slide show below or at full screen HERE … and cross reference them with the videos of the actual talks. Great work Gavin. You can come back in 2011.
We’re thrilled to be able to announce our line up of performers for TEDxSydney on 22 May at CarriageWorks. Our Musical Director Anton Monsted has been charming and cajoling now for many weeks. Set out here are the fruits of his considerable labours. Performing for us all at CarriageWorks in support of TEDxSydney and Australian Ideas Worth Spreading will be: William Barton, Bobby Singh with Damini Darbor, FourPlay String Quartet, Mr.Percival, Missy Higgins, The Bonettes, Mahalia Barnes + The Soul Mates. Slowly but surely, the program fills for the big day.
We’re happy to announce yet another speaker for TEDxSydney 2010:
Brett Solomon is co-founder and Executive Director of Accessnow.org – a new global movement for digital freedom. Born out of the aftermath of the 2009 Iranian election, Access uses cutting edge technologies to help people living behind the firewall, provides thought leadership on the new frontier of digital rights, and is building a mass global citizens’ movement which advocates for internet freedom. Brett was Campaign Director at Avaaz.org, a global political web force which has rapidly grown into the largest online activist community in the world at 3.6 million subscribers in all 193 countries. Brett was the first Executive Director of GetUp!, an Australian political organisation of over 300,000 people, worked as Campaign Coordinator at Amnesty and founded Oxfam’s International Youth Parliament.
Here we are sitting around Remo’s dining room table trying to cull a list of 170 feasible speakers for TEDxSydney 2010 down to (say) 80 … on our way to an ultimate 20 for the one day event (so little time, so many thinkers).
Lots of talent to choose from … but the mix also needs to be right. There’s time to orchestrate … but a desire to get some foundations laid this side of Christmas. Thanks for all of the suggestions coming through the website. Please keep ‘em coming HERE, and know that we are taking them all very seriously … even the nominations that come in 8 or 10 times for the same person! By the way, Janne is on her way to TEDIndia on Sunday, so we are impressed that she could make this meeting. Bon Voyage Janne!
A good TED Talk involves the dynamic and engaging presentation of a compelling IDEA or a great story. The core curatorial team is in the process of generating a short list of initial speaker ideas. We already have the beginnings of a fabulous list but we’re looking for more ideas from the community, especially the hidden gems. There’ll be around 20 people speaking on the day … for between 3 & 18 minutes each. Your nominations for people that we should be considering have been coming in via our contact form. Please keep them coming! Nominate a Speaker HERE.
