Kirsty Short

 

Kirsty Short is a NHMRC CJ Martin fellow currently based at the University of Queensland. She completed her PhD in 2013 at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Melbourne. She then relocated to the Netherlands to work in the Department of Virosciences at Erasmus Medical Centre. At the end of 2015, she once again relocated to Brisbane to work at the University of Queensland.

She has dedicated her research career to understanding the flu virus. She is interested in many different aspects of the flu including the synergy between the flu and bacterial infections, understanding how the flu virus affects different animal species, investigating the role of the immune system in severe flu infections and the interactions between the flu and chronic medical conditions such as diabetes. She is a passionate believer in the importance of basic science and the ability of research to improve people’s day-to-day lives.
