Performing writer Miles Merrill brought poetry slams to Australia from Chicago.

His work is the catalyst for Australia’s spoken-word movement. Merrill is the founder and director of the literary arts organisation Word Travels and the international performing writers program, Australian Poetry Slam. His many incarnations have led him to:

A field in Forbes performing for farmers

Spit spoken word to beats in Brooklyn house parties

Loop live poetry at an Audio Art Festival in Krakow

A solo show at Sydney Opera House

Host Australian Poetry Slam on ABC TV

Help I.T. analysts at AMP present without PowerPoint

Get 5,000 Indian students to wriggle like aliens

Ask audiences to read out poems by detained refugees

Work with Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo

Inspire 40 ASEAN uni-students to write/perform group poetry

Love his “Job”

Miles publishes text, video and audio but is best experienced live.
