Sela Vai, Founder of HUMXN
Sela Vai is an award-winning Pasifika movement artist who seeks to create safe spaces for the empowerment of young artists. She choreographed TVC’s and music videos, where her passion lies in creating visibility for BIWOC artists in the commercial industry. Credits include: Apple, Commbank, Suncorp, JD Sports, Yousef Akbar, the A-League, Thelma Plum, T-kay Maizda and Young Franco, Milan Ring, No Mono, and Bloodmoon, to name a few.
Not limited to the dance industry, Sela is resident choreographer and Associate Artist of Black Birds, independent theatre company run by Womxn of Colour, (whom she collaborated with on her first work RECLAIM that won an FBI Smac Award for ‘Best On Stage’ 2020.) Sela has also won awards for her choreography with Ngaiire on “Closer”, one of many music videos she has worked on with Australian artists with casting, choreography and movement coaching. Sela has travelled the world as a dance teacher, hosting workshops in Europe, Asia and all around Australia. Her work seeks to dissect and reflect her experience as a Tongan-Australian womxn as well as help elevate the voices of fellow womxn and Pacific peoples.
