TEDxSydney 2020 – Discovery Sessions

This year at TEDxSydney 2020, we are introducing a new dimension for the event: Discovery Sessions.

Creating real time interaction with other attendees and creative ways for engaging with ideas and speakers, Discovery Sessions will give you a chance to dig deeper into an idea, to learn something new or to simply get up and move your body.

They will be run by individuals from the TEDxSydney community, including speakers (past and present), partners, team members and selected members of our broader community.

TECHNOLOGY & THE FUTURE

  • ESCARGOT, a HEVĒ production in partnership with [INVNT GROUP] – HEVĒ explores how talented creatives from the skateboarding community use the city of Sydney to work for them
  • Tech as an extension of ourselves – Crowd favourite Tom Nash returns to TEDxSydney to challenge our reliance on technology
  • Suzie Sheehy in conversation with Kirsty de Garis – Accelerator physicist and 2018 TEDxSydney speaker Susie Sheehy is back in the hot seat with Curator Kirsty de Garis.
  • Get pumped – Shake it out as you head into the final session of TEDxSydney with our resident DJ.

  • Ethics at work, in partnership with Work Club –As we move into the new normal, will business as usual serve us when it comes to ethics in the workplace?
  • AIEF alumni assemble –Hear from some of the brightest minds of TEDxSydney’s charity partner – the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation.

  • Latte art by the experts, in partnership with The Little Marionette – Ever wonder how baristas create hearts, tulips, and swans out of textured milk? Well wonder no longer!
  • Meet the barista, in partnership with The Little Marionette – Learn just how powerful coffee can be in creating community and shifting culture.
  • Explore the art of photography, in partnership with Dell XPS – Dive into Sydney’s stunning beaches in this diverse exploration with Aquabumps’ Eugene Tan.
  • How to record an album from your bedroom, in partnership with Dell XPS – Turn your home into a recording studio with Aria Award-nominated Stan Walker.

COMMUNITY & CULTURE

  • Eddie Jaku in conversation with Fraser Orford – The darling of 2019 returns to TEDxSydney as he celebrates his 100th Birthday.
  • Become a grand slam poet – Think you know what poetry is all about? Think again. 2018 TEDxSydney speaker Miles Merrill is back!
  • Pour yourself a cup, in partnership with The Little Marionette –Get your day started with the team behind one of Sydney’s most-loved coffee brands.
  • Meet the Man behind The Little Marionette, Edward Cutcliffe – Explore the creatively behind the beans that entertain even the most discerning coffee connoisseurs.

SUSTAINABILITY & THE ENVIRONMENT

  • How do we live more sustainably? –In this practical workshop you’ll be armed with the tools (and checklist) to do just that.
  • Designing to save our planet – Join design industry leaders as they discuss how they plan to design ourselves to a more sustainable future.
  • Evolving a sustainability movement in Australia, in partnership with IKEA –Thought-leaders assemble to discuss how big businesses can advocate for big changes that are needed to advance sustainability.

BODY, MIND & SOUL

  • Cello yoga – Wake up your body and mind with a yoga class unlike any other … accompanied by a live musician.
  • How to give great feedback –In this workshop, you’ll be equipped with some practical tools to apply in your day to day interactions on giving and receiving feedback.
  • Chill out – Relax and recharge as our resident DJ entertains you over lunch.
  • Zoom community choir – Warm up those vocal cords for a Zoom experience unlike any other.
