TEDxSYDNEY ANNOUNCES FIRST SPEAKER LINEUP TO SHARE STORIES AND CELEBRATE IDEAS EXPLORING 2020 THEME OF REAL
SYDNEY – TEDxSydney, Australia’s leading ideas platform, has today announced the first round of speakers and performers to take to the TEDxSydney 2020 stage on Friday 6 November at the ICC Sydney.
The first raft of speakers announced includes Melbourne songwriter and co-writer of hit singles ‘Stay’ and ‘The Middle’, Sarah Aarons; Doctor and domestic violence survivor, Angela Jay; and Atlassian’s work futurist, Dominic Price.
Also joining TEDxSydney’s lineup is iconic musician and artist best known for his work with Australian clothing brand, Mambo, Reg Mombassa; Afghan-Australian journalist and Audible Original author, Mahmood Fazal; and CEO, Founder and proud Cabrogal women, Mikaela Jade of Indigital.
We will also welcome performances from urban South Asian Fusion Dancers, Bindi Bosses; and talented musician, Mindy Meng Wang, who will mesmerise the auditorium with the sounds of the guzheng, a 21-string, two-metre long traditional chinese instrument.

At its 11th flagship event, TEDxSydney explores the theme of Real and how we might shape, challenge or change the way we think or behave. To truly have a grasp on our reality and who we are, TEDxSydney gives us an opportunity to simply listen to the stories of those around us as a way to engage with our cultural, social, political, economic and environmental pressures.
This year’s event will observe all the shades of the definition of real, across a unique day of talks, performances, films, connection, conversations and debate.
Fenella Kernebone, TEDxSydney’s Head of Curation, says: “With the theme of Real, our lineup of speakers will explore real topics from climate change to unreal developments in technology and science. They will also encourage us to go into the depths of being real about our personal truths and vulnerabilities as well as thinking about real ideas from the worlds of business and design.”
The second round of speakers and performers will be announced in the coming months.
Returning to TEDxSydney 2020, the Kick Start program from Principal Partner, St.George Bank, will be giving small businesses and entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their business ideas on stage. With only just 60 seconds to pitch an idea, participants will have a chance to get their hands on a share of the $100,000 grant to help transform their business dreams.
Anthony Mathews, National Head of SME Banking, St.George said: “”Growing a small business or getting your business idea off the ground is no easy feat, particularly when it comes to funding. Even if you have that moment of inspiration, SMEs and entrepreneurs can find themselves unable to bring their ideas to life without access to funds. Through the St.George Kick Start program, we hope we can help provide a platform that gives them the chance to receive funding and turn their dreams into a reality.”
TEDxSydney 2020 welcomes the brightest and the bravest brands to engage with our community. We do partnerships differently here at TEDxSydney and it requires a special kind of organisation with shared values and ideals to partner with this event. We are privileged to work with a collection of innovative, disruptive and creative partners that want to give back, educate and create deep and meaningful relationships with the TEDxSydney community.
St.George Bank, oOh! Media, The University of Sydney, Innovative Production Services, INVNT, Viostream, Rackspace, Marque Lawyers, Workclub and The Little Marionette have been returning partners year on year showing their commitment to the proliferation of new ideas and the inherent value of the event.
