TEDxSydney announces St.George and other partners to fire up new ideas in 2018

TEDxSydney 2018 · 15 June 2018

TEDxSydney – the leading platform for the propagation of Australian ideas, creativity and innovation – has today announced a raft of local partners, including St.George bank as Principal Partner, to support a new generation of bold conversations in 2018.

The independently organised event, licensed by TED and taking place on 15 June at the ICC Sydney, will feature local and international Australian voices, providing a forum for bold people to share bold ideas on the theme of HumanKind.

TEDxSydney 2018 marks St.George’s fourth year sponsoring the event and the bank will be joined by Leadership Partner oOh! Media and Major Partners H&R Block, The University of Sydney, AlphaSys and The Sydney Morning Herald. Viostream will be the Live Stream Partner.

Creative PR agency Poem and social agency L&A Social have been appointed by TEDxSydney as the PR partner and social media partner respectively with Gallantway as the SEM agency and The Wired Agency as the SEO agency. Adina Hotels, Rackspace and Innovative Production Services have all been named event partners.

Fenella Kernebone, TEDxSydney’s Head of Curation, says, “TEDxSydney 2018 is all about locating and nurturing Australian ideas worth spreading with the aim to inspire people around the globe.

“We couldn’t ask for a better collection of partners that will join us in bringing this goal to life. They act as the tinder to help ignite new and challenging ideas.

“We are living in a time of massive disruption. The increasing integration of technology in our lives coupled with major advances in robotics and AI, are impacting on what it means to be human in ways we are yet to fully understand. We want to explore with our 2018 event theme HumanKind, the things that unite us as humans: our ingenuity, our cultures, our compassion, and our humanity.”

Cathy Yuncken, General Manager Business Banking, St.George Banking Group, says, “St. George Business Bank is delighted to partner with TEDxSydney for the fourth consecutive year and continue to support the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that drives Australian business success.

“Our Kick Start program is returning to TEDxSydney in 2018, where businesses of all sizes have the opportunity to pitch their ideas on stage for the chance to win one of the $40,000 cheques that can help transform their business.

“The program provides the platform for 12 Kick Start finalists in two separate categories – entrepreneurs with a ‘new business idea’ or business owners with a ‘new idea for their businesses’ – to pitch their ideas in 60 seconds at TEDxSydney, with four recipients to share $100,000 to set them up for future success.”

“St. George’s long-standing support of Australian small business and start-ups is a great fit for the TEDx mission of ‘ideas worth spreading’, and we look forward to turning more ideas into a reality in 2018.”

Today marks the official 2018 launch for TEDxSydney, with speaker lineup announcements to follow in the coming months. People who took to the stage last year in 2017 include: co-founder and co-CEO of Atlassian of Atlassian, Mike Cannon-Brookes; comedian and LGBTQIA+ activist Jordan Raskopoulos; award-winning actor and Aboriginal elder, Uncle Jack Charles; singer Sarah Blasko; and former Paralympic swimmer, Sarah Houbolt.

About TEDxSydney

TEDxSydney has become the leading platform for the propagation of Australian ideas, creativity and innovation to the rest of the world. It aims to create and foster a sense of community amongst the people and organisations who have gathered (and continue to gather) around the event; and to provide a cultural focus and impetus for conversation and debate. TEDxSydney is an independently organised event licensed from TED by longtime TEDster, Remo Giuffré (REMO General Store, General Thinking network) and run by the TEDxSydney organising team & volunteers.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California almost 35 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak on a diverse mix of topics. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The TED2018 Conference takes place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; and TEDBooks, short e-books on powerful ideas. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
