By 2050, almost 5 billion people will be living in cities, representing 70 % of the global population. Responding to this challenge, humans will have to come up with increasingly creative ways to produce food. Urban farming is going to be a large part of the solution, and here at Urban Green Sydney we will be looking to innovate in this space. We have humble beginnings in growing microgreens and sprouts, but have plans to increase production to lettuces and small vegetables.
Sustainability is the key driver of our production systems and business model. Our founder, Noah, had an 8 year career in kitchens, along the way pursuing a degree in Environmental Humanities at the University of New South Wales. Urban Green Sydney was therefore the perfect way of fusing these two areas of expertise.
By building in sustainability from the beginning, it has allowed us to find solutions to problems within an already existing sustainable framework, rather than coming back later and retrofitting the operation to suit current trends.
Currently the business is based in Marrickville, Sydney, and we are hoping to take on a larger production space around the beginning of 2020. Please feel free to head to our website and follow us on our social media channels for news and updates.
