After setting up a successful nature project, rolling out an innovative new technology solutions to filter and clean our oceans, waters and rivers, Pete realised that there was a crucial gap in his company’s ability to scale and have the impact it really needed to combat the incredible scale of the problem of plastic pollution in our waters. To solve this problem, he and his company Seabin had to develop a new business model to make the nature project ‘profitable’ — a dirty word for some to associate with nature based altruistic companies. But, as he argues in this talk, focusing on data and the establishment of a unique ‘nature certificate’ market Seabin has the ability to attract investment and scale to make an important impact on the health of our water. Profit shouldn’t be a dirty word. The case for making nature projects good financial investments.
