Satellites Come Together

TEDxSydney Satellite Host Kit – Introduction

You don't need to be at the Sydney Opera House to be part of the TEDxSydney live event.

Every year, a special live broadcast of the main TEDxSydney event – interspersed with exclusive interviews and backstage access – is streamed via our web site. And we’ll be doing it again this year, on Wednesday 25 May 2016. But you don’t have to watch this all on your own – as a registered TEDxSydney Satellite you can share the experience with your colleagues, your community or your friends, thanks to our Presenting Partner Optus.

The TEDxSydney Satellite program launched in 2013 and already more than 50,000 people have participated in the program, both here in Australia and all over the world. You can create your TEDxSydney Satellite anywhere: at work, at home, in a café, a library or even in the park. All you need is a screen, a good internet connection and an open mind.

This TEDxSydney Satellite Host Kit will help you make the most of your TEDxSydney experience in your own community. The Kit is designed for Satellite Hosts who have already registered via our web site. If you have not yet registered, you must register here in order to be eligible to host an official Satellite event.

Let’s get some terms and conditions out the way before we get into the good stuff:

  • TEDx Rules: All TEDxSydney Satellites must comply, at a minimum, with the letter and intent of the TEDx Rules set down by TED Conferences LLC. Please make sure you have read these rules before proceding.
  • Naming: You must follow this naming convention for your event: “TEDxSydney Satellite at [Your Venue]” There must be no confusion that this is a Satellite and not a larger TEDxSydney or TEDx event that would otherwise be subject to the licensing rules set down by TED. If you set up a Facebook Event or an Eventbrite page, you must follow this naming convention.
  • Free Attendance: We strongly recommend that you do not charge for your event. TEDxSydney is a charitable organisation that is driven overwhelmingly by volunteers; it is not a money-making enterprise. If you do need to cover some costs associated with your event (e.g. food and beverage), we ask that you keep any contribution to a small minimum; no more than A$30 per person.
  • Please note that we reserve the right to remove your event from our official register of events, at our absolute discretion, if we feel that it is not in the spirit of TEDxSydney and its Satellite program.

If you have any questions about any of the above terms, please drop our Satellites team a line via satellites@tedxsydney.com
