Kimberley Abbott: Turning Rubble Into Rupees. Kimberley Abbott talks about how innovation can spring from the most unlikely sources. In her case, Kimberley started a social business “Roka” after a visit to India. “Roka” aims to break the cycle of poverty through economic empowerment of women & education. Kimberley will also be demonstrating how to turn rubble into rupees. At 23, Kimberley has already established a reputation as a young leader, entrepreneur, and inspirational changemaker. Kimberley has been named on the 2013 Westpac and Financial Review’s list of Australia’s 100 Women of Influence, was named Young Australian Citizen of the Year 2012 by Kiama council, and was a finalist in the 2011 Pride of Australia Medal Young leader. During her 5 years of study at university she gained two degrees with honours (B Engineering/B Science), completed a thesis where she helped develop the worlds most advanced artificial heart, and co-founded and ran the successful ‘Yes WE(women Engineers) can!’ girls in engineering program.
