Stellar Live Performances Complete The TEDxSydney 2016 Lineup

At TEDxSydney, we pride ourselves on the quality and volume of ideas that we pack into our annual event. But it’s not just about the speakers and the talks. Whether you’re watching live in the Concert Hall, at a Satellite event or enjoying the live stream, you’ll also be entertained by a series of stellar live performances from a diverse and eclectic range of artists.

This year, we’ve cast the net wider than ever before to encompass artists from many points on the compass, each designed to massage your brain in very different ways. Cue highly appropriate drum roll …

Tralala Blip are unlike any other electronic outfit you’ve ever heard or seen, with core contributions from three members with intellectual disabilities. This isn’t a patronizing or token set up – it’s powerful self-expression from people whose voices we don’t often hear.

Kirin J Callinan is a Sydney artist riding the wave of meteoric career arc. Following the release of his debut album, and great acclaim for its music, his show and his cavalier approach, Kirin started a collaboration with producer Mark Ronson, playing on his ‘Uptown Funk’ album and touring internationally with his band.

Wafia first surfaced on a collaborative single with Melbourne’s Japanese Wallpaper, which was personally selected by Zach Braff for the official soundtrack to his feature ‘Wish I Was Here’ alongside Bon Iver and Cat Power. Her debut EP includes production by Ta-Ku and Thrupence and co-writes with Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Ben Abraham.

A cultural ambassador of his country. Bukhchuluun Ganburged combines virtuosic Morin Khuur (Horse Head Fiddle) and Khuumii (Harmonic Overtone Throat Singing) skills to transmit the harmony of Mongolian nomads and Shamanic culture  through time and space.

Emma & Missy’s shared love of aerial acrobatics, dance and gelato has led to a partnership that combines their talents to create beautiful works of aerial dance.

Asta was first lifted from Tasmanian rural obscurity by triple j when they announced her as the winner of their Unearthed High School Band competition. For TEDxSydney, Asta will strip it back to the basics, relying simply on voice and piano.

Deb Spoons Perry is known worldwide for her skilful, energetic and entertaining spoon playing. She is a World Champion and a finalist on Australia’s Got Talent and will be reaching for something very special in the Concert Hall auditorium …

All Our Exes Live in Texas is a fantasy draft of some of Sydney’s finest singer-songwriters – Elana Stone, Katie Wighton, Hannah Crofts and Georgia Mooney –combining in four-part indie-folk heaven on mandolin, ukulele, accordion and guitar.

Urthboy (Tim Levinson) is an award-winning Hip Hop artist from Sydney, who after a break and the birth of his daughter, has just dropped his fifth studio album ‘The Past Beats Inside Me Like A Second Heartbeat’.
